read adxl335 data

hi - have uploaded sketch on arduino yun , used serial monitor send h , l makes led turn on , off.  have got accelerometer connected , have uploaded example sketch adxl3xx source.  can't work out see data.  have nothing coming serial monitor thought happen uses lines in code "serial.print(analogread(xpin));".  there lines in code y , z axis.
can please tell me application use see data.  can putty arduino root user well.
