Thread: ATI Driver makes screen unviewable; don't know how to reverse

i tried install ati driver can adjust screen resolution more readily, unviewable screen can't log , can't operate ubuntu 9.04 with. i've tried different methods reverse it, such booting in safe mode , trying graphics fix, won't work. i'm using ati x1650 card. there way boot system won't engage new driver? isn't point of 'safe mode' able start system , access can undo harmful changes , access files opposed resuming normal boot? - short-sighted , lame setup btw! @ least need way access disk pull important files off of it.

you need root login use of recovery stuff. default ubuntu setup not include root login.
around screwup, have used putty on windows box ssh affected computer, login , uninstall ati driver. change /usr/share/ati directory , type: sudo ./fglrx-uninstall.sh

have had trouble describe (monitor shuts down, keyboard dead) both on install of ati driver , uninstall. on uninstall, 1 instead navigates driver install program , runs under sudo reinstall driver.
