i installed ubuntu 9.10 dvd burned. used custom install option , created swap partition of 5 gb , / of 28. windows 7 occupies 239 gb. when shutdown computer , try reboot ubuntu, grub not appear @ , automatically goes windows 7. not know if installed ubuntu correctly, did not want clean install did custom , selected thought needed, did need make more partitions did or there way repair grub?

ubuntu 9.10 uses grub 2, , menu hidden default. press , hold shift on boot, , menu should appear.
