Thread: Does Ubuntu (really) support emu10k sound cards?

hi,

ubuntu support emu10k sound cards. note, loaded question. if ask "does ubuntu support 3d accelerator video card?" , answer "yes, won't let use of hardware acceleration , force rendering done in software." honestly, answer should "no."

emu10k mixing of sound streams in hardware , alsa allows to. @ 1 time these among best sounds cards worked under linux. have emu10k running under jaunty pulse audio disabled alsa can used directly. ubuntu being pulse audio distribution, of course unsupported.

understanding pulse audio hobbles system's ability utilize sound cards forcing sound mixing , processing occur in software, preventing user being allowed take advantage of hardware features hardware sound mixing in emu10k regardless of card capable of.

so, question.

  • ubuntu support (or any) hardware accelerated sound card?
  • ubuntu studio?
  • @ least have choice ubuntu enable support @ expense of losing features might decide not need or never use?
  • there perhaps place can send these question decisive answer?

thanks,
edd
