Thread: eeePC 701SD Realtek wireless cannot connect to WEP shared key network

i have eeepc 701sd, wireless connected fine networks in 9.04 (including wep shared key network @ home). wireless card supported out of box r8180 driver. use normal ubuntu desktop, not unr edition.

lshw:
code:
rtl8187se wireless lan controller
however, clean 9.10 reinstall, cannot connect wep shared key network (this occured when testing beta, didnt think of , went 9.04). eeepc can connect other networks, @ university , friends place (both wpa2), issue wep shared key network. not connecting, mean put in key, set network configurations shared key, however, times out , asks key again (right after kernel problem message, see below).

have desktop running 9.10 , can connect wep shared key network no issues, , there no issues when running 9.04 either.

thus, come conclusion related change must have occured 9.04 9.10 r8180 driver eeepc. insight?

ps: aware of bug announced in release notes (i have different card, same issue). experience kernel crash if use hot key turn on/off wireless antenna. http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/rele...kernel%20crash interesting thing when nm-applet times out , asks password again, red kernel crash icon pop in system tray, saying "your system encounted serious kernel problem".

cheers!

i have similar issue. upgraded 9.10 , when connected home wireless network via wep key. connects , loses connection. not issue when ran 9.04. did clean install of 9.10. oddly enough not issue if try connect unsecured network.

ideas?

btw have 1 of b43xxx wireless chip sets
