Frustrated! Need help connecting Uno to XP

computer not connect xp.
arduino ide says com3
in device mnager, see arduino (com3)
i have installed software on d drive , c drive no connection.
in device mnager, com3 set 9600 baud.
i have restarted computer
i have followed install instructions letter, many times.

what else can do?

solved!.  had wire connected pin 1, or whatever arduino usart pin was.  had bluetooth module connected , had not removed it.
