Thread: Upgrade 9.04-->9.10 Suggestion Request


dear all,
running ubuntu 9.04 on laptop. upgrade 9.10 via apt-get , terminal.
have few questions
(1) see source list @ end of post. should change jaunty karmic , run apt-get update followed apt-get dist-upgrade?
also: karmic backports available immediately?
(2)i read switch ext3 ext4 ubuntu filesystem in 9.10, should worry about?
(3) when installing ubuntu 9.04, chose encrypt home directory. make difference dist upgrade have in mind?

the recommended upgrade sudo update-manager -d; better job apt-get dist-upgrade, , take care of jaunty->karmic apt conversion you. i'm not sure if can run in entirely non-gui mode. debian folks suggest sudo aptitude full-upgrade rather apt-get.

haven't tried upgrade-the-encrypted-home directory scenario, see no reason why shouldn't work fine. upgrade, prudence suggests backup first, , doublly sure have exported , archived ecryptfs recovery keys off-host part of backup.
