Thread: Wireless connection disappeared after automatic software update

guys, need help. wireless connection seems have disappeared on night (literally!).

software manager telling me further updates had installed told download/install them before went sleep last night. morning woke , couldn't detect wireless networks anymore!

in connections tab under system > administration > network can see "wired connection" , "point-to-point connection".

typing lshw terminal gets me following response: "bash: lshw: command not found"

iwconfig shows following:
lo - no wireless extensions.
eth0 - no wireless extensions.
sms - no wireless extensions.

i'm running ubuntu 8.04 on dell mini.

i've left uk go travelling year , netbook means of communication (except relying on pcs internet in hotels i'm doing right now) - need fixed asap. know do?
