Thread: Gateway 400SD4: Screen Brightness Flickers and Laptop Clicks

hi, have xubuntu 9.04 installed on old gateway 400sd4 (i think that's it's called), , every time turn laptop on, screen's brightness flickers low high , high low, , hear clicking sound coming outside computer. don't know problem is, annoying. whenever @ battery charge indicator light on laptop, flashes red , stays orange or green, disappears sometimes. think flickering , clicking has battery rapidly going charging discharging , vice versa, not sure. thoughts on happening? i'd appreciative if problem fixed.

sounds pretty obvious hardware problem. loose dc jack, failing ac adapter, or internal power issues. i'll go on them breifly...

loose dc jack. ac adpater plugs laptop. connection motherboard gets broken or loosened up. can happen tripping on power cord, or using laptop many times wears out. can cause issues this.

failing ac adapter. if ac adapter starting go out might hear random high pitched noises, squeeks, or humms. ac adapter may randomly not able provide enough power laptop can cause issues this.

internal power issues. if motherboard failing can have random power issues. doesn't take long total failure happen if case.
