installed raspbian on raspberry pi , connected dell ultrasharp u2715h 27" monitor via hdmi. able log in , updated , upgraded everything, installed packages, wifi, etc. works fine. disconnected , hooked via hdmi lg w2361vg 23" monitor plan on using on. boots fine showing scrolling text tries run startx (i believe) goes black screen blinking white cursor. tried ctrl-alt-f2 , flashed text login screen briefly every time tried this. need hook 27" , reconfigure graphics settings works on 23"?

have changed several settings, did what?
restarted interfaces, rebooted pi, powered down or used shutdown?

why not using first setup display verify initial settings.
