Portfolio Assistance?

hi friends,

i've got simple frustrating question because haven't been able find in-depth answer this. i'm not sure if in right forum, if it's not, mods feel free move it. sorry.

i'm studying creative technology (design , technology) , it's first year there. wondering kind of work creative technologist have in portfolio? we're going studying lot of things such openframeworks, cinder , use whole lot of arduino i'm still confused work real world companies, jobs expect see creative technologist?

if has portfolio example offer inspiration great! insight appreciated.
