Thread: Upgrading from 9.04 within a screen session

i think hosed system. remember kids backup. @ work , decided upgrade system @ home. in order allow upgrade run ran

code:
sh /media/cdrom0/cdromupgrade
from within screen session log out , not worry it. logged in few times check status , seemed going other having press enter continue through few ncurses screen few packages. got work , tried log in screen session using

code:
screen -x
and got

program 'screen' not installed. can install typing:
sudo apt-get install screen
screen: command not found
bash: screen: command not found

tried installing screen of course get

e: not lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: resource temporarily unavailable)
e: unable lock administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), process using it?

no mystery there.

looked screen /usr/bin/screen.real. ran

code:
/usr/bin/screen.real -x
lo , behold able screen session back. continued upgrade without more issues.
after rebooting login screen came fonts huge/big. mind display 40" hdtv. had autologin enabled gdm before upgrading. ok thats fine. autologin should easy fix. don't know fonts. resolution looks , mythtv came it's new interface. not sure if or not see.

anyway upgrading seemed work pretty well...for linux still needs work. also, shouldn't have been within screen session...oh well.

long story short. clean installs safest. upgrade if absolutely have to. upgrading has it's little quirks no matter os upgrading. , don't upgrade distro versions within screen session.

anyway thought post upgrade experience.
