Capacitor? 12V power supply for pi + ledstrip - Raspberry Pi Forums

hello!

sorry if in wrong section, not decide place question this.

im making led strip project stairs pi 0 act brains. leds cool white 3528.

using numbers here: http://www.ledlightsworld.com/page.html?id=38
i'm thinking of cutting led roll 13pcs of 30cm strips.
( 13 x 1,44w ) / 12 = 1,56 current when lit.

electronics wired inside electronics enclosure , want 1 power supply. i've bought 12v 2a powersupply of of ebay. thinking of using 12v 5v stepdown converter module hijack power pi 0 supply ledstrips.

questions:
1. bad idea?
2. if instantly light strips big jump in current drawn ps. need capacitor pi 0 ensure smooth signal?
3. if yes 2, size enough? got 10uf , 100uf coming in ebay.

1. no people time, common thing micro controllers arduino
2. psu able handle (unless poor quality), led strips pretty safe there no kickback
3. if having kind of trouble 100u or more best, better try , fix problem causing it.

using switch led on , off? if connect led strip directly gpio burn out sinking current through pi. need mosfet switch on , off, see https://i.imgur.com/vp9ib1o.jpg (viewtopic.php?f=38&t=129709) see how power (from battery instead of psu) goes through transistor, gpio switches gate on , off. if know sorry, didn't mention it.

powering pi use these time http://imgur.com/kiuntz3 used cars, search dc-dc converter 12 5v stable power pi.

hope helps
