i've been interested in getting pi while, , decided it's time order pi zero.
here's ordered: still haven't recieved yet, want turn old gameboy pocket emulator, i'm going want connect lcd, small mono speaker (with ability connect stereo headphones, if possible), , connect original buttons pi (with analog volume control if possible).
problem have no hardware knowledge whatsoever (i'm more of software/programming guy), , don't want end ruining pi. have searched around basic tutorial complete noobs (not related creating handheld emulator), seem find tutorials , projects assume have basic understanding of how things, don't.

i'm wondering can read basics? instead of tutorial tells me follow blindly without idiot-friendly explanation.

thing i'm wondering more hardware parts might need? wires, , things that? basic things should have @ home when doing project this

thank in advance

it's ambitious first project, luck , we'll as can.

need soldering iron (and practice first?)

recommend temperature controlled soldering station rather iron permanently connected mains plug. it's easier nice solder joint temperature controlled soldering station.

practice cheap strip board , practice soldering wires it.

connecting buttons pi:
suggest start solderless breadboard , follow "connect button gpio" tutorials pi 0 doesn't have headers soldered on need hold wires in place on pizero blutack (or invest in b+ testing purposes).
wires used solderless breadboard known "dupont wires", need male male having male female , female female can useful.

audio output of pi isn't amplified, need small mono amplifier circuit have volume control need able adjust variable resistor (or desolder , add external variable resistor of same value).

adafruits pigrrl build worth read.
