Joomla ACL Questions for Component Development - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

hello there,

i'm new joomla development @ , try create component joomla. works far run trouble understanding      acl system. have question.

as far understand setting "access level" (public, registered, special) in components used in frontend. check access <= $my->gid in mysql query, example. not has affect in backed, thats right?

now, whats backend? found $acl->check_acl function found not useful , (maybe) replaced in joomla 1.5. how check if user is, example, allowed delete category created component (i dont use joomla category table, use own)?
