Using a computer display with Arduino

hey guys,

not sure if noob question, quite new arduino system. have done bunch of research , don't seem able find i'm looking for.

is possible use external computer lcd monitor (that is, big screen) display visuals triggered arduino? if so, how can go doing it? also, possible in color rather b/w?

additionally, file formats accepted far visuals? have animation occur. best upload .gif, or mpg, or individual files? programming involved make happen?

please note have rfid sensor hooked rig right now, , plan use rfid cards trigger different visuals on screen.
