Thread: Ubuntu 9.04 NBR, Firestarter, and Xbox Live problems
hi all,
having issues using laptop access xbox live through 360.
have dell mini 9, running ubuntu 9.04 netbook remix. installed firestarter well. have dhcp installed well. receive error whenever trying open firestarter or start firewall when have checked option share connections.
have been soliciting elsewhere, haven't been able figure out yet. i'll try run down we've tried far.
opening firestarter gives me error box says "unknown error has occurred" , asks me check settings/connections. please see attached image titled "error1". error not present when "enable internet connection sharing" unticked in options.
clicking out of box shows firestarter, seen in attached image "firestarter2". eth0 connection xbox ethernet cable. shows activity when try test connection through xbox's console, , shows 0.0 kb/s 0.2 kb/s. eth1 wireless connection. not under load in screenshot, show activity when is. pan0 unknown, , never see activity on it, don't know does.
used "ifconfig" command see status of local device's ip. used command
to establish ip address local device. confirmed "ifconfig" command. entered firestarter settings , established range of ip addresses:code:sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.5.1
lowest: 192.168.5.2
highest: 192.168.5.10
still gave me unknown error. noticed after clicking "apply" if went firestarter's settings, had reverted automatic setting.
checked dhcp status via command , result:
i tried restarting firestarter via terminal following command , response:code:nick@tiny-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install dhcp3-server [sudo] password nick: reading package lists... done building dependency tree reading state information... done dhcp3-server newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 remove , 0 not upgraded.
i @ complete loss. advice appreciated. have googled , searched , followed guide after guide, , cannot make headway. easy on vista laptop!code:sudo /etc/init.d/firestarter restart * stopping firestarter firewall... [ ok ] * starting firestarter firewall... [fail]
*bump*
no help? took screenshots , laid out every step i've taken.
