Thread: Cannot install any packages -- "Requested packages are already installed"

i cannot install new packages in fresh kubuntu 9.10 install. kde firefox installer brings message says "requested packages installed." attempting install terminal results in "e: package _________ has no installation candidate" error.

what's going on?
