variable ac motor driver - Raspberry Pi Forums

ive been trying give ac motor variable speeds using rpi, dc motor can use pulse width modulation pwm doesn't seem work ac motors, or not these starting/running capacitor. applying resistance electrical feed allow variable speeds.
pwm see , hear fan speeding , slowing down irrationally, using python. can done or barking wrong tree?
aware if can control ac pwm? or alternatively aware of kind of potentiometer can control raspberry, or case of having set resistances selecting resistance used through gpio set up?

on previous project split 12vac give me +6vdc , -6vdc on separate lines, done 230vac? doing allow pwm connecting between 2 dc lines produce ac?
far fetched idea, im not sure way go @ point. believe work i believe pwm doesn't work on ac due connecting anywhere within sine wave, way youd creating sine wave part of pwm although wouldn't linear(maybe capacitor that) work?
