Thread: Karmic logs in then stops with no gnome-panel or nautilus

should have known true. remember how in old days sucked beyond belief trying upgrade 5.04 5.10 or 5.10 6.06. thought days gone after seeing how karmic downloaded , installed. rebooted.

here happening. problem seems in between other people reporting. grub works charm. can login no problem. stops. can see background there isn't gnome-panel in sight , can't see files on desktop. being gnome-do user able terminal open , poke around, start firefox, , start gnome-panel , nautilus. when fire latter 2 there no icons , items in main menu missing. played gnome-appearance-properties , tells me none of icon theme packs installed.

can log kde , bar there still no actual desktop. failsafe gnome has been thing yield different result far. works 100% in failsafe gnome. not logging in root in recovery mode better.

assuming there log file somewhere or info in may pertinent problem. if can give me clue or may going on appreciated. in advance.

i'm getting similiar issue. installed ubuntu 9.1. after updated graphics drivers, working fine. restarted few times. no problem. booted vista (i duel-booted vista , linux, didn't partition vista vista refuses believe exists), , rebooted in ubuntu, , fails. can ctrl+ald+delete/power-button menu.

believe problem vista doesn't regocnize partition exists, whenm booted it, somehow screwed files there no longer start, since can't remove partition since ubuntu uses , vista refuses believe exists, can't delete , try again.

can access terminal , trying few commands such ssh, gcc, cd, ls, etc. seems work fine, can't graphical other background , 1 window appears when pressing start button.

it's 64-bit system, if @ relevant.
