Litte robot project-Power questions - Raspberry Pi Forums

i planning on making little robot project, not knowledgeable electronics (any more) have faint idea on very basics, after reading few tutorials , posts, thinking on using rpi b + tamiya chassis/two mottors + l298n + single battery pack (aa's 9v).

i've read couple of times l298n may fry rpi if power sourced through (because want single power supply), read ubec may trick, questions are:

a) rpi powered through gpio lacks protection, can wires (power , ground) coming l298n coupled mini usb plug , used on rpi's natural power input instead?

b) should previous approach still required ubec?

c)if above not recommended, "single" power source approach project?

many information, appreciate comments.

yes can add micro usb plug output 5v power source,

l298n's 5v regulator output isn't sufficiently powerful run pi, pi cut out whenever try run motors.

ubec ideal solution, solder micro usb plug output wires.
