Thread: partitioning for multiboot system
hi all, thinking setting multiple boot system around 4 os's
goal have 1 stable working never crashing system. , 3 experimental systems can screw around big time.
thinking of setting so:
- 512mb boot partition
- swap partition (usual size)
- ~10gb partition stable os
- extended partition 3 partitions testing os's
thinking might want have home partition shared between os's (they'll linux, form of ubuntu)
i've read in other threads issues can come shared home folder , best way have separate user folder each system
thoughts?
you can either things way single /home partition , different username each, or can more economically small root partitions each (10gb) , separate /data partition. doing things way mean distros have access data files, docs, photos, music, videos, etc etc, without duplication of files. configuration files , folders each distro go straight root partition one, keeping them separate each other avoid possible conflicts.
annoying thing may getting same config files things thunderbird , firefox, if use them email , browsing, may need make new group email , internet , make ~/.mozilla-thunderbird , ~/.mozilla folders in home partition of 1 of distros read/write members of group, making sure each user member, of course.
there may other ways it, wait other peoples ideas well. regard extended vs primary partitions, if have no windows, can make whole disk extended partition , rid of limit on numbers straight away.
