Optoisolator Circuit
hi guys working on pcb design implemented in automotive application , needing read 12v inputs follows:
vehicle speed sensor: 0-12v pulsed signal
rpm: 0-12v pulsed signal
on/off toggle switch
vgt: 0-12v pwm signal
i thinking of using optoisolator (ltv-847) http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/ltv-847/160-1370-5-nd/385840
i testing using simple voltage dividers planning on taking production need safe , reliable.
i new optoisolators having bit of problem figuring out circuit required them. need 20ma through led correct forward correct?
and how hookup transistor side atmega328p in order have when input signal high atmega reads high etc?
here thinking far not know how hook transistor side atmega chip.

ground emitters, collectors i/o input_pullup. logic "upside down" since collector-emitter gate close led input high , take i/o pin low, that's easy take care of in code.
edit.... each segment looks circuit shown here internal pullup instead.
