Can No Longer Print to PDF: No File Created

(i had problem months ago too, went awayapple update?)
recently did stupid on mac (still new mac windows) , had reinstall os x (install , archive). after installing os x 10.5.3, updated 10.5.6. reinstalled cs4 master collection , installed updates that. couple weeks ago.
i seldom need print anything, when do, print them pdf. now, when command-p in application (safari, textedit, mail.app, etc), nothing happens. acrobat creates no file. using adobe pdf 9.0 driver. there work around: in lower-left hand corner of print dialog box, can click on pdf > save pdf. prompted name file twice , print. however, trying research issue, else mentioned same thing , told that's apple's pdf printer. want print using acrobat 9.
can tell me i'm doing wrong?

try resetting printer subsystem. using work around mention
uses apple's native os x pdf creation facility.
