Thread: software for a user new to ubuntu

i've installed ubuntu, got , running liking. i'm looking software. able recommend or other?

word processor - i'm looking @ openoffice this, had installed on vista anyway
e-mail client - thunderbird
browser - firefox
instant messenger - ims linux have?
dictionary - read , write lot, wondering if there dictionary/thesaurus type application
video player - don't know linux has, need playing dvds , video files download
music player - important music collection main focal point of computer usage, need can connect ipod, thinking songbird?

image editor - opening images , resizing them, maybe messing around bit
disc writer - need able write audio cds, isos, video files play on tv, , regular data discs
peer-to-peer client - using frostwire
torrent client - bittorrent?
address book - keeping phone numbers in case phone dies
download manager - downloading large files, using flashget
security - linux need security?
archive manager - using winrar, ubuntu comes it's own archive manager, work files types?
