Using timers and interrupts in arduino uno- Metal detector project

i have been trying implement setup shown on following page:

in order built metal detector. unfortunately, looks timer , interrupt not working. using arduino uno- need code differently? have far tried source code post.

on general level, if work out how read @ input 5 great start,

have built oscillator circuit , producing 160khz signal pin 5 of uno?
